Use Overlays in Photoshop

Overlays are not actually installed in Photoshop. They are actually imported as an image and used along with the image you are editing.

Open the image you are editing in Photoshop.

Open the overlay you wish to use.

Copy and paste the overlay onto your image.

Resize and adjust your overlay to match your image.

Change the Layer Mode to Screen.

Adjust the layer opacity and edit as desired.

Once you are happy, merge the two layers.
